THE Reds came within seconds of recording a double of Preston North End in this Totesport.com League game at Globe Way.
Striker Obi Anoruo had put the home side into an early lead when he converted from close range after a great run from Adrian Cieslewicz, but in the third minute of added time George Miller finally broke Wrexham's resistance finishing off after Fred Holtom had struck a post.
This coming after Chris Maxwell had pulled off a great penalty save to deny Adam Barton on 64 minutes.
Wrexham opened the scoring as early as the 12th minute, Obi side footing home after Cieslewicz had forced his way to the line and picked out the Scouser, pulling the ball back into his path.
Obi was unlucky to his lob over keeper Dominic Comrie headed off the line only three minutes later.
Preston had their moments in the first half, but they were limited to long range efforts that were in the main well off target.
Early in the second period, the visitors were awarded a penalty, but Wales U21 keeper Maxwell went the right way from the spot and denied the tall figure of Barton.
A double substitution followed moments later with Curtis Obeng and Matty Wolfenden being sent on for Neil Taylor and Obi.
Shortly afterwards it was the turn of Johnny Hunt to see some action when he replaced Cieslewicz.
Preston were dominating the play at this stage and in a rare Wrexham attack, Wolfy picked up a loose ball in the box and forced Comrie into a save at his near post.
With the game moving deep into added time Miller was alter enough to react to the ball rebounding off a Wrexham post and firing home North End's leveller.
It was no more than the visitors' deserved for a fine second half, but still was a disappointment as the referee blew for full time as soon as the game restarted.
