Reds Capture Scottish Winger

Posted on: Fri 27 Jan 2012

WREXHAM player-manager Andy Morrell has made his first signing of the transfer window with the capture of Steven Leslie from Shrewsbury Town on a contract through to the end of the season.

The Scottish-born attacking midfielder signed professional forms with The Shrews in the summer of 2006 shortly after making his first-team debut.

Since then Leslie's made over 100 appearances for the club, as well as enjoying two loan spells with Hereford United and is clearly looking forward to playing for the Dragons.

"It's been a very hectic day," explained the 24-year-old. "I was training with Shrewsbury this morning and then had the call to say that Wrexham wanted me.

"I had no hesitation in agreeing to come here because the team is doing well and I just want to be playing football.

"Wrexham is a big club and I've heard great things about the place. The team have been going great guns this season, so I know I've got to play well to get into the side but I'm looking forward to the challenge."

With the transfer completed late in the day, the FAW played another blinder with the English FA and clearance was received in double quick time, so he will be eligible for a place in the squad against Bath City on Saturday afternoon.
