WREXHAM hope to gain their first points of the season when they entertain Morecambe at the Racecourse this Saturday (3.00).

Brian Carey's men will go into the game with confidence after the penalty shoot-out victory over League One side Port Vale on Tuesday night. With some of the Dragons' fringe players impressing in the Carling Cup match, manager Carey will have to decide whether to reshuffle his pack once more for the first home game of the season.

Morecambe will also be full of confidence after their performance in midweek. They travelled to Deepdale to take on Preston, and caused the upset of the night to advance to round two with a 2-1 away win. David Artell pounced on a goalkeeping error to poke the ball home and send the Championship side out of the competition.

Manager Sammy McIlroy described the result as 'a proud moment in the club's history' but was keen to turn the attention back to League Two, stating he'd rather take three points from Saturday's game.

The Shrimps got their League Two campaign off to a solid start last week, taking a point from the home game against Barnet. Although both sides had chances to win the game, the match ended goalless, largely thanks to Morecambe 'keeper Joe Lewis pulling off a great save late into his debut game.

However Morecambe may be forced into team changes for the game against Wrexham. Midfielder Fraser McLachlan will miss most of the season after suffering a broken leg in the win at Preston. Other absentees include Matty Blinkhorn and Michael Twiss, who is unlikely to feature after going off injured at half time at Deepdale.

Wrexham boss Brian Carey made changes to his line-up in midweek, bringing in Michael Jones, Matt Done and Levi Mackin, as well as introducing Conall Murtagh, Josh Johnson and Marc Williams later into the game. The Dragons are likely to have Steve Evans missing through injury, with Mark Jones another doubt after missing the midweek game at Vale Park.

Last Time Out

Wrexham faced The Shrimpers at the Racecourse back in October 2003, in the first round of the Football League Trophy. The Dragons ran out comfortable winners, thanks goals from Lee Jones (3) and Hector Sam in a 4-1 victory. Chris Llewellyn, Mark Jones and Matt Crowell featured in the game, with Shaun Pejic an unused substitute.
