Match Preview - Morecambe
WREXHAM look forward to their first trip to Christie Park on Tuesday evening, where they will face Sammy McIlroy's Morecambe.
Brian Little's side are still propping up the league table despite gaining a point against Bradford City at the weekend. Neil Roberts' first half goal put the Dragons ahead, but a deflected Kyle Nix effort just after the break resulted in the points being shared.
Wrexham have now played one game more than 23rd-placed Mansfield Town, but have a game in hand on Dagenham and Redbridge who sit just outside the drop zone, three points ahead of ourselves.
It is fair to say that Morecambe have exceeded expectations following promotion to the Football League via the playoffs. The Shrimps currently lie in 9th place in League Two, three points behind Chesterfield who occupy the final playoff position.
Although their performances in the league have been impressive, many will have noticed Morecambe's exploits in the Carling Cup, where they knocked out two Championship sides before being knocked out in the third round.
Goals from Jim Bentley and David Artell embarrassed near neighbours Preston North End in the first round, before an excellent 3-1 win after extra time at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Sammy McIlroy's side have stumbled recently in their pursuit of the League Two playoff places however. In their last game they were held to a 1-1 draw by Notts County, Carl Baker scoring a second half equaliser for the Shrimps.
This came after defeats at the hands of Shrewsbury Town and Darlington, 2-0 and 3-0 respectively.
Top scorer for the Shrimps this season is Carl Baker, who took his tally to ten in all competitions following his strike against Notts County.
Brian Little included new loan signing Drewe Broughton against Bradford City at the weekend, and the former Boston United forward is likely to feature again as fellow loanee Robert Duffy serves a one match suspension.
Last Time Out
Morecambe were the first visitors to the Racecourse for the 2007-08 season, and it was the home side that came out victorious. Wrexham went into a 2-0 lead by half time, courtesy of a brace from Michael Proctor. Jon Newby then scored soon after the break and set up a nervy finale, but the home side held on.
