THE boss looks back at our FA Cup exit and also forward to welcoming Forest Green Rovers to the Racecourse:

Well our FA Cup adventure is over for another season and I couldn't help but feel a real sense of disappointment on Saturday night.

Not in the way the players performed, rather the fact that we played so well from start to finish, yet didn't get anything from the game.

Their goalkeeper had an excellent match and made three or four superb saves. It seems to almost be a recurring theme at the moment with every opposition keeper who plays here.

But the thing that cost us the most was Christian Smith's sending-off. Up until that point we'd been in control of the game and I honestly felt that there was only going to be one winner.

Christian is not a malicious player but as soon as he went in for the challenge I thought to myself, 'that's a red card'.

Looking at it again on the DVD, he can have no complaints about the referee's decision although there were a few other incidents whereby I felt we didn't necessarily get the rub of the green from the officials.

One was the 'penalty' appeal in the second-half when the ball clearly struck the hand of one of the Swindon players inside the area but, despite the players' protests at the time, it wasn't seen by the referee.

When we were reduced to ten men I did wonder how the side would react but, if anything, they became even stronger in their will to win which was very pleasing.

They raised their energy levels still further and took the game to a team which is sitting in seventh place in League One.

We still kept creating chances, but we just needed one of them to go.

They didn't and we paid a have price when we left Gordon Greer on his own at what was a very simple set-piece routine. In the end, he's headed the ball home from barely three yards out which is particularly frustrating.

Maybe Christian's absence played a part as he normally defends that edge of the six-yard box, so there may have been some confusion as a result.

Overall, there were a lot of positives we can take from the 90 minutes not least being Gareth Taylor's performance. I thought he led the line superbly and it was interesting to hear the Swindon defenders saying how tough a game he'd given them afterwards.

Whether it was his flick-on's or bringing the ball down on his chest and laying it off, they just couldn't cope with him all afternoon. In fact, even Danny Wilson commented that it was as tough an away game as his side had had all season.

Still, we can't seem to put the ball in the back of the net at the moment; it's got to the stage whereby I'm standing there on the touchline thinking the ball has to go in and then suddenly it can hit a defender's backside and rebound clear!

We just don't seem to have any luck whatsoever at the moment.

But we can't feel sorry for ourselves and our focus over the last couple of days has been firmly on tonight's match against Forest Green Rovers. And it goes without saying that we need to get back on the winning trail.

Their side has changed a lot since we met at the back end of August when two goals from Wes Baynes secured our first away victory.

They too were in FA Cup action at the weekend and will have been buoyed by their win at Bath City.

Our last two home matches have shown that the side is improving and I believe that you the fans have responded to that. Now we just need to get that elusive win which will hopefully kick start our charge for the play-offs.
