The seventh of manager Brian Little's summer signings, Darran is a commanding central defender who offers pace, strength and reliability at the back.
A former Preston trainee, Kempson cut his teeth in Conference football whilst on loan at Accrington and Morecambe respectively before joining the Shrimpers on a permanent basis in March 2005.
A key part of the Morecambe set up under Jimmy Harvey, he helped the side reach the play-offs the following year before falling out of favour following a change of manager.
That prompted a return to League football with Crewe before he joined Bury on loan in February 2007, eventually steering the Shakers clear of relegation.
Kempson spent last season at Shrewsbury, moving to The Racecourse in search of regular first team football.
More recently he spent two months on loan with Forest Green Rovers, helping them to the third round of the FA Cup, where they faced Derby County and just lost out 4-3!
