Started his career with Blackburn Rovers in their youth system, before returning to his native north-east to join up with Darlington.
From there it was onto Chester City and Shrewsbury Town, before switching to the Dragons in 2007.
Richard was captain of the Shrews and led them out at the new Wembley for the first play-off final to be played at the reconstructed stadium, yet was released just three days later, only to be quickly snapped up by Wrexham.
