The goals continued to flow at the Racecourse Ground during the pre-season, as visitors Burnley ran out 5-2 winners before a sparse crowd. The game was a tale of three penalties as the Red Dragons had recovered from 2-0 down to draw level courtesy of a brace from Mike Proctor, the second of which from the spot. However, the Clarets, fielding a vastly experienced side, showed their Championship class and netted three times in the last 25 minutes, two of which were also from the spot, to run out convincing winners.

Red boss Brian Carey was pleased with another good workout: "It was a really good lesson for us and we found out an awful lot tonight, too many things to be specific about right now.

"What we did say afterwards was that the manner in which you start games is really, really important. You need to set yourself up for a game but we really didn't do that tonight.

"It was a great workout fitness wise, but we probably did too much work when we didn't have the ball and not enough when we did have it but it was a good game and a good workout for us.

"We gave a few lads 90 minutes and others had an hour to an hour, and it was a bit more football for them again.

"We got to Newtown tomorrow and that's another game for those that did not have a run-out tonight. Like I have just said, let's start that one properly, try and have a go and do what Burnley did to us tonight.

"That was mainly because we allowed them to pass the ball but they are a Championship side and that was a lesson for us tonight. The lads that came on as sub tonight will more than likely start tomorrow and they can do 60 minutes or more just like those that were out there tonight.

"We have put a strong side out tonight and we'll be doing the same tomorrow. I have said to the players not to be letting their imagination run away with them with regard to the teams that we are putting out.

"We've got a lot of support down in that part of Wales and its only right that the people down there see a decent team. They should be pleased with the lads who are going down there and hopefully we can put on a good show. As I said we have treated both the Burnley game and the Newtown games the same.

"Burnley took the game to us early on and gave us problems with the way that they passed the ball and we need to do that. They are a Championship side and if you allow good players room to do what they want then they can cause you problems.

"Again it is a lesson for us tonight but we got to be realistic about it and realise what we are doing and where we are trying to go.

"It was pleasing to get back level, we had a go, responded and did what we are good at and that lasted about 25 minutes to half an hour and we showed in that period what we are all about.

"Proctor did well, he got two goals in tonight and Eifion got a couple the other week, we have lacked goals in the past so it is good for us that they are amongst the goals already. They are the positives that we can take out of tonight, and there were some good performances.

"We made mistakes defensively at times, we switched off at crucial moments what with the penalties conceded. I would say that there are things there which are easily solved if you like, we haven't done any organisational work as of yet, its mainly been about fitness but we are coming to a stage now where that will kick in. We are hoping now to get into some rhythm over the next few weeks.

"We haven't worked at all on things defensively ourselves, or on our own organisation as of yet, and at this time of the season, there are no teamsheets going around, we don't go out there saying you pick him and you pick him up.

"We try to organise but we haven't got to that stage of the season yet. Don't get me wrong, I don't like conceding five goals and we'll need to try to stop that as soon as possible.

"Kaid [Mohamed] has looked good, he's looked sharp, and he is one that hopefully we will be making a decision on in the next few days.

"Probably from when we go away to Ireland, we'll start to take things forward with regard to organisation and the like, and hopefully by the Dungannon game we will be starting to move forward.

"The players have probably gone home tonight fed up and that's not a bad thing."
