FOLLOWING this opening day defeat to Darlington at the TFM Arena, manager Brian Carey was naturally frustrated following the final whistle.
"Obviously I'm disappointed," he said afterwards.
"We created numerous opportunities throughout the match and not to start taking them was frustrating.
"The lads in the dressing room are disappointed with the situation, as they know we did enough not to have lost this game.
"To compound things, we then made errors for their goals, which I trust will not happen again.
"Generally I was pleased with our approach to the game as a team.
"But from the number of crosses we have put in front of their goal, not to have opened our account has cost us dear.
"With our lack of finishing the result should have been 0-0, but we made things worse for ourselves with a couple of mistakes at the back.
"Still, its early days and the opening part of this game was quite cagey, not really unexpected for the first day of the season.
"Overall I was happy with the commitment shown, but now we have to start sticking away our opportunities."
In the opposite dressing room there was a pleasure at the result, as well as a sense of relief that Wrexham had not been able to fight back into the match.
"We had some luck today, but you need that to win games," said assistant manager Martin Gray.
"The substitute keeper has come on and produced a couple of great saves to keep us in front.
"To be fair, Wrexham have their chances but not taken them.
"There was no argument over the sending off, but I was pleased with the way we reacted to it.
"We all know the quality that Julian Joachim has and that he can score goals like we saw today."
