A solitary goal from Michael Symes was enough for visitors Shrewsbury Town to return to Shropshire with all three points in front of a subdued crowd of a little over 4,000 at the Racecourse.

It was a disappointed Brian Carey who once again faced the press afterwards:

"I thought that the first half was very tight, it was a typical derby game, and there were a few chances at both ends.

"In fact, I think that we probably shaded it in the first half in terms of chances, and generally I pleased enough with how it went. If we had continued with that, then I think that we could have gone on and got the goal.

"I knew that the first goal was always going to be vital and we had a spell where we shot ourselves in the foot again, playing right into their hands and conceded the goal.

"In trying to get ourselves back into the game, we started doing things that we are not good at.

"We got the ball forward too quickly in desperation to try and get a goal back, and apart from chances for Marc (Williams) and Robbie (Garrett) that was about it in the second half.

"I think Shrewsbury probably did to us today what we did to them at the end of last season.

"The goal was a ricochet but the disappointing thing was the response. We tried to get the ball forward too quickly and didn't do what we did in the first half when we created more chances.

"We missed Mike Carvill when he went off. Matty Done came on and looked lively, as did Marc, but we are making it very, very difficult for ourselves at the moment.

"We changed things in the hope of getting a goal back, it didn't work but you have got to try these things.

"There was a bit of doom and gloom around, and the lads found it difficult to stick to what they are good at which made it very difficult for ourselves."
