Brian: The Result Was The All Important Thing
A spectacular second half goal from Neil Roberts was enough to secure an unexpected three points from the bottom versus top clash at the Racecourse Ground as high-flying MK Dons were put to the sword.
With no less six players making their home debuts, it was a much changed Dragons side which took to the field, but the full eleven, plus subs Mike Proctor and Jeff Whitley, produced the goods in a fully deserved but unexpected triumph.
Boss Brian Little was pleased as punch afterwards, "It was a great result but I don't want to really analyse the match too much at the moment.
"The result was the all important thing for us and even a point would have been a step in the right direction but it is a massive result for us and I am very, very pleased."
"We got a break at the time, and we got a couple of breaks around the goal, but in fairness I think that the determination to not let them score was evident.
"All round it was better than some of the things that we have produced up to now.
"It was an excellent goal, a quality goal; there were so many people in the box that the only way that he could get it from there was with a chip and more often than not that will go wide or over. It was a great goal, but Neil worked really well in his midfield role again today. From week to week he has been playing in different positions but he doesn't grumble he just gets on with it.
"I was pleased for everyone today, we were at the point where we could not sit on the fence any more, we have been waiting for January. Ryan was interesting Darlington a couple of days ago made me speak to Tranmere and I was delighted when it came back that Carl would come here. I know Carl really well.
"Stuart, I know less but I have seen him a few times. Martin has been getting on to me for a little while about him and between the two of us we back each other's judgement, and the new lads have done well for us today. There are lot of new things, and we needed to do something different, even those who were here will benefit from having the new lads around the club and might bring the best out of them.
"We are still searching for the right blend but obviously results are the most important thing at the moment.
"There are certain things that we would like to do. We'll see. The most important thing is that Brian, Martin and myself bounce ideas off each other every day and make phone calls every day. We have changed quite a bit and the important thing is to analyse today properly at the right time. At the moment we are just pleased that we have won but we need to look at the player's performance to see if there is anything that we can do to try and improve that. We will do our best to try and do that.
"We have lost Ryan to Darlington who are promotion seeking so obviously our players who attract attention are the ones who are in our team and playing quite well.
"There is no secret now about the Peterborough interest (in Chris Llewellyn) and if that is right then we will consider it when it is written down, or sorted out, then will consider it. At the moment Chris plays for me week in and week out and if and when a decision has to made it will be made, it is as simple as that.
"Hopefully the injury to Paul (Hall) is not too bad. I have never known Paul to have a hamstring injury. The ground was difficult today, he has gone down awkwardly but I don't think that it is major at the moment but we have to wait and see.
"If I start predicting what we will do next then I know that I have lost the plot! It was a vital win for us and it will show people that we are going to lie down.
"I don't like to go on about the last three games but I felt that we were nearer to winning them than losing them. Unfortunately we lost them but our overall analysis showed that we had made a step in the right direction in the last week or so. Statements are worth nothing when you lose a game of football so at least today I don't have to say that because I think that most people will say that for me.
"If the players do their talking on the pitch and get the results, then I don't have to talk as much as I've needed too, or as much as I am at the moment.
"I'm delighted for everyone; they all worked their socks off. Whether we deserved it or not I don't really know as I haven't analysed it yet but I thought that we worked well and tried hard and that was important.
"Not everything is my decision but I have the final say. The good thing is that both Martin and Brian have been in management before so they know where I am coming from."
