Brian: It's Pretty Irritating To Say The Least

Posted on: Sun 23 Mar 2008

FOR Wrexham boss Brian Little this defeat left him frustrated that the tactics which saw off Bury last week, had failed to produced a repeat performance at Griffin Park against Brentford:

"You have good days and bad days in this business and this was a poor day for us.

"In the conditions I didn't think either side played particularly well and we gave two very sloppy goals.

"We had three or four half chances that didn't go in, but it was a day when nothing happened for us really.

"I'm disappointed with that, because we play differently away from home recently, we've used three centre backs and have been strong.

"It's a bit crazy really, because I was saying to the lads, that our tendency to give nothing away has seen us win one or two games and looked better.

"Today we have come here, played 4-4-2 to try and get at them and it just didn't happen. It's pretty irritating to say the least.

"Pre-game our mentality was about winning, and yet we seemed to be further away from winning today.

"There didn't seem to be much between the sides, neither could really play in the conditions and reverted to getting the ball forward and try to feed off those little mistakes.

"They took advantage of two and we took advantage of none - end of story really.

"We are all very aware of how important it is to win games and using this formation we did well at home to Bury, today it just didn't work.

"But we will dust ourselves down, we have a game on Monday, which we will go flat out to win.

"There are 10 games to go and we will be trying very hard to stay up, but we must do better.

"No one needs to tell us that, we are very aware of what is needed.

"We got up this morning, saw ourselves six points behind Macclesfield with four games in hand and thought that's not bad, but we needed a win today to put them under pressure.

"It's all very well having four games in hand, but you have to feel you can win them, but performances like that won't win us anything.

"There first goal today proved to be very decisive, while we had a couple of little scrambles that ended up in their keeper's hands, but I can't remember them havingmissing any chances, but with the two opportunities they have scored.

"So there wasn't much between the sides, but it is disappointing because we have tried to play a certain way and it just hasn't happened for us.

"We now have a long journey home and a day tomorrow to decide what we do against Dagenham on Monday.

"But if you judge this performance against last week's, when we played a similar formation, then they are just poles apart.

"It's irritating, but at home I convinced we can at least play this way, we can get at the opposition.

"Today wasn't a great day for anyone to play football and I'm sure they would say the same thing. The ball even rolled away from the boy taking that free kick.

"It was always going to be someone grinding out a result, whichever side won would say they had done okay, while the losers will say they haven't played very well.
