Brian: It Was A Game That We Should Have Won
Despite dominating the game for long periods and creating numerous chances, we were unable to make the crucial breakthrough and ended up sharing the points after a disappointing scoreless draw with visitors Dagenham and Redbridge. With Macclesfield beating Barnet and Notts County securing a 0-0 draw at Shrewsbury we now find ourselves seven points from safety.
Reds boss Brian Little was at a loss to explain how we failed to win, "It was a game that we went out to try and win, and it was a game that we should have won.
"It is a game that we are disappointed that we have not won but there were so many things that were right.
"Brian Carey has just said to me that it is a long time since a Wrexham side has dominated a game from start to finish like that without wining.
"Whether it is a little bit too late to be doing that I don't know, but it feels like a defeat because we have not closed in on anybody once again.
"It just shows today how important it is to win when you are playing Dagenham, Macclesfield and Notts.
"Today we haven't won but we've had so many chances it was difficult to count them all; I think Drewe had at least six clear headers, some have hit the post, some have hit people's feet or just slightly missed the target and that is just one player.
"We have had bags of chances. It is not as though we have scrambled away, got one chance and not taken it, we had more that done enough to have won and that is the major disappointment.
"I just hope that we continue to play like that in our remaining games because that will give us a chance.
"Obviously it gets more and difficult now.
"We said before Saturday that this weekend will make a massive difference to somebody and obviously us getting one point from our two games has not helped us at all.
"We'll be honest enough with ourselves but we won't give up.
"I think that you saw with the players today that we haven't given up, they have had a right go, and it's probably as strong as we have been in my time here.
"Today was a key game, it was massive, they (Dagenham) have had a good run and then a little bit of a blip lately, but if we had won today that would have made them think a little bit. They have got a bit of a cushion on us, I think that it's nine points, and that is three wins. When you are the bottom of the table getting three wins is like winning the lottery.
"It is a bit of a gap and we needed to win today.
"Obviously we now need to win some of the other games as they come along.
"We looked at Saturday's game; we didn't play well but we had more chances than them.
"We had opportunities where the goalkeeper was on the line and the ball has ended up in his hands on three occasions.
"There are things that we are doing right, that we were doing a few weeks ago when we won a couple of games.
"We can't do anymore than we are doing; we are there or thereabouts in games. We are not going to set things alight, we are not going to play anybody off the park, although I thought that we did quite well today.
"All we can do is keep working at it and keep banging away.
"Even on Saturday we played better than we did at Chester. We weren't happy because we lost 2-0 but when we watched the game we had more chances, they only had two chances. Chester could have had four against us so the dividing line is very thin."
