Brian: We Make Mistakes In Key Areas
ANOTHER decent display, but once again the same sorry outcome as the Dragons left Barnet empty handed.
"In most of our games this season, there have been pre-defining moments and today that came 15 seconds before half time," said Brian Little.
"I felt, and I'm also open to criticism, that we were cruising in the first half. We were easily matching them, keeping them out.
"They had a couple of corners, which we were getting edgy on, but we then made the mistake again of fouling with just seconds to go.
"The only place they were going to put it was in the box and then we let the marker go in the box. Which were two very silly mistakes in a short period of time.
"There was no need to foul, they were going nowhere and we should have got to half time a nil-nil. The momentum would then have been with us to go on and do well.
"The elements were a little bit in our favour in the second half and to have gone at nil-nil would have physiologically in our favour.
"But that changed it and we knew we had to get back into the game.
"At 2-0 we knew were gambling, then at 2-1 we go and give another bad goal away. To get back again was hard, but we tried hard, although we also gave them opportunities as we pushed on.
"Yes, I'm disappointed because I felt we had everything under control up until those last few seconds of the first half.
"Any manager will tell that to concede then will always change your team talk. Today ours went right out the window, as everybody was down and it was more a case of lifting them
"It was a big moment for us and to be honest, I don't think we really recovered from it.
"I can't criticise the effort and commitment, but once again we are our own worst enemies.
"I'm disappointed not to have won here today, although I accept that in the second half they had more chances to score when we got a bit ragged.
"But I keep going back to that goal before half time, yes we have had a couple of little scratches, but we also had the better of the chances.
"To concede like that will knock you to pieces, especially when you are bottom and not winning games.
"We are disappointed as our last few trips down to this part of the world have all had the same result, slightly different performances, but the same result. Which has made it an unhappy hunting ground for us.
"We have been talking with the players at the final whistle and I have been telling them that I believe we can win two games in a row, which is something we have to do
"We have had a good talk in there about how we are, what we are doing, what we need to do.
"There is really only one way to approach it and that's to go for it!"
Asked how important Tuesday night's visit to Mansfield Town was, the boss replied:
"Had we won today, then it would be massive; as we have lost, then it's also massive.
"We just need to finish above two teams.
"We do our analysis on teams on anything up to 15 points ahead of us and we feel that we are an equal to them, but we do have a crucial difference to them and that seems to be giving away a silly goal or two.
"We know we can match them, but we are making mistakes in the wrong areas of the park and it's hurting us."
