Brian: Much Improved Performance
"Before today we talked at length about Thursday night's performance, when we felt we should have possibly got a draw there.
"So we said a lot of things about being sharper, lighter and working to the system, irrespective of the team we are playing.
"It was a good chat about things and we got back to some good basics on the training ground yesterday. It's a little difficult to do as we are playing games so quickly, but we just had to remind people what we are about.
"In fairness to the lads today, they did that.
"Yes, we got sucker punched for their goal. I'm not sure how it happened, as we seemed to have things under control. I'll have to have a good look at on the video, but at the time I thought 'he we go again'.
"So I gambled and introduced a little bit of variation into the team. Putting some small pacey players up against their big men.
"We are learning all the time, but didn't know much about Rushden. We have watched them a number of times, talked to people about them, but until you really get in amongst people, you don't know what's what.
"Playing the way we did at the end got us back into the game, but there was a lot that we did earlier which could have possibly seen win the game.
"Their keeper has pulled a number of saves off and overall I thought we were the stronger side.
"On the back of Thursday I'm pleased with that as a performance.
"Yes a little bit disappointed that we didn't get a win, but the opening four games we have been handed would certainly be against the tougher sides in the division.
"These two away from home, it would have been nicer to have got more from them, but there is a long way to go and we will continue to lean from them.
"I think the nice thing today was that we showed we can vary our play if we need to and it has got us something out of the game.
"All in all, some good performances.
"We had to do some defending in the second half and the two centre halves did well generally, although they did get caught occasionally. Tom and Levi, Tom especially in midfield, were solid today and kept the team going.
"Which, if you like, was another message from Thursday.
