Dean: When Your Luck's Out, It's Out

Posted on: Wed 10 Mar 2010

MANAGER Dean Saunders was left facing the press at the end of another 90 minutes when his team had carved out a lead, but once more been unable to convert that advantage into three points.

"I had hoped the Roy Evans being here tonight might have brought us a bit of luck this evening, but after that what can you say!

"I thought we were comfortable all night, even when we went down to 10-men.

"I'm really disappointed there for Tom Kearney, as we think he has broken his leg, but I don't feel it was a red card.

"It was a block tackle from Frank Sinclair. One foot got the ball, but unfortunately Tom has ended up with a broken leg.

"Frank has been sent off as a result, although it didn't harm us too much, as we battled well.

"Then later on, one of their players could have been sent off and it did turn into something of a farce.

"I know that these lads [referees] are trying to climb up the ladder and get into the Premier League, but they have got to have a look. Jobs are on the line for all of us and supporters are paying to get in to watch this.

"Week in and week out, I'm amazed at what's going on!

"I thought the lad who pushed Mike Williams over the hoardings might get a red card, but he didn't, then I thought the lad who jumped two-footed into Luke Holden might get a red card, but he didn't!

"Then I gave up arguing, as I thought there was little point in saying anything after that.

"We have to accept it and move on!

"As for the game, we have given away a penalty from our own throw in, something else we have gone over and over in training.

"Then the equaliser seems to have come off the back of Andy Mangan's head for an own goal.

"When your luck's out, then your luck's out.

"I would say that seven or eight of the lads have worked tirelessly and I'm proud of them, but we have been let down by two or three - who don't care as much as the rest of them and me.

"We head to Luton on Saturday, which should be a great game to be involved in.

"We have done well with 10-men for so long and the lads have battled, but the worst bit is Tom's broken leg and that's more important than anything."
