Dean: It Was No More Than We Deserved

Posted on: Sun 29 Aug 2010

THE was an obvious sense of relief all round the ground following our 95th minute equaliser agaist Barrow and that was refelected in Dean Saunders' post match comments.

"It was nothing more we deserved," said the boss.

"It could have been the most one-sided game I have ever been involved with!

"I had a stats man counting for us, and he recorded 37 balls played into their box, 16 corners and 21 crosses.

"Really, their goalkeeper has had a good day, making several good saves. So to be fair, it's nothing more than the lads deserved.

"Even on the final whistle it's an obvious penalty, as the referee blew so he didn't have to make a decision.

"At the end we have come away with a point and yet it feels a bit like we have won. I couldn't have asked any more from the players, as their effort was tremendous.

"Right from the kick off we have pummelled them, but just couldn't get the ball over the line.

"We seemed to be having all the game for the first 20 minutes or so of the match, playing well and winning every second ball, then we find found ourselves trailing.

"It was a header inside by Marvin and Jason Walker has managed to get a touch to the ball, it's bounced off Blackie's legs and right back into his path. Which seems to be typical of what's happening to us at the moment, although to be fair he's then finished it well.

"You have to say that Barrow have defended well and to have that many balls into your box without conceding, then you have to say the centre backs have played well.

"Fair play to our supporters, because they've stuck with us. If they had gone the other way, we might not have got that goal at the end. We do need them sticking with us and I was really with everybody.

"I actually felt more pleased for the fans than myself when the goal went in, because they were trying to stay behind us, even though they were frustrated.

"It might not be three points, but I hope they've gone home feeling a little bit better."
