Andy: Glad To Get The Win

Posted on: Sun 22 Jan 2012

AFTER a week which must have drained the players, it was good to finish off with a win and another vital three points, this time from a victory over Kettering Town.

"It was really hard to get the lads going again after Wednesday," said Andy.

"The first half was tough as we didn't pass or moved it great, I think we were just tired and had a bit of a hangover, but we got the goal to give us the lead, which killed their spirits a little.

"Glad to get a second shortly after half time and in the second half I thought we were good.

"We moved the ball well and scored a couple of good goals."

Who is claiming the first goal?

"That's me!" stated Andy.

"Glen whazzed it in, a rubbish free kick, their guy has missed it and it's hit me in the inside of the calf. To be honest I didn't know where it had gone, but then saw it in the back of the net.

"So that's mine, I'll have that!"

Two very different goals in the matter of a few days.

"From the sublime to the ridiculous, but they all count," remarked the boss.

"I've scored many of them in my career and I hope there's a few more to come as well."

"Goals change games and while we started okay, the early goal helped. The pitch and the weather didn't help, but we took too many touches to move the ball, which allowed them to get about us.

"Second half was better, we got a second and they scored a worldy to get back in it, but we put the game to bed with the third. We moved the ball better, less touches and we looked a different team."

It was good to see some of the younger players come on and make a telling contribution.

"The idea was to give some of the youngsters a chance if we could, as we don't have too many bodies at the moment," said Andy.

"Jay has come onto the bench after doing really well with the Ressies. It's great to get him minutes in the first team, which will only get him better.

"I am though still trying to get some of the other lads back to give us a bit of a stronger bench and a stronger team."

Does that mean players could also be joining from other clubs?

"We are still talking to a few people, but as I have said before, they have to be the right ones," said the manager.

"I don't want to bring in so many that it's wrong for the squad we have here, which is a tight unit and I don't want to blow that wide open.

"The ones that we do bring in will hopefully be the right ones and add something to our team."
