Andy: Disappointed By The Result

Posted on: Fri 27 Jan 2012

OUR excellent winning streak and unbeaten run finally came to a grinding halt at Forest Green, as the locals got the better of us by single goal on the night.

"Obviously I'm disappointed about the result," said Andy.

"I'm pleased we gave it a go in the end, but I'm more disappointed that we didn't give it a go from the start of the game. I think there were a few tired legs from what has happened over the past couple of weeks.

"In the final 20 minutes, we gave it a real go but I'm disappointed that we didn't do that for the whole game. We then pretty much chucked the kitchen sink at them towards the end, but it didn't fall our way and that is the way it goes sometimes.

"People will talk about the penalty at the end, but I never automatically think we are going to score penalties; I like to see it nestle in the back of the net before believing that.

"Unfortunately it didn't this time as the keeper made a save with his foot and it wasn't to be. Dean Keates is our penalty taker when Jake Speight isn't playing and he was brave enough to say "I'll have it" and I'm willing to back him with that decision.

"As you can imagine Dean didn't feel great after that miss, but that is all part of football. You have to be brave enough to stand up and take it, especially with it being in the 95th minute.

"We have been on an incredible run and the lads need to be really proud of that. You have to try and get that across to them in dressing room at the end of the game. At least we had a go and we didn't just whimper out.

"With the transfer window soon set to close, I'm still trying to search out a few new faces. As I have said before though, they have got to be the right signings, as there is no point in getting so many in that it's wrong for us, as we have got a good little tight unit and I don't want to blow that wide open.

"Hopefully the ones we are after will be the right ones for us, as we try and add a couple of new faces in the coming days."
