ON a freezing cold night in the Cefn, Wrexham Reserves bounced back from an early upset to record a win against the visiting Accrington Stanley.

Not only that, but Danny Williams returned to action after four months out and enjoyed 45 minutes as his first step on the road back to the first team.

"I'm glad to have got through it and I feel fine," he said. "It was good to be involved again."

The visitors took the lead in almost bizarre fashion on 11 minutes when a poor clearance by Reds keeper Michael Jones went straight to the feet of Robert Grant, but with the goal at his mercy the striker couldn't control the ball.

He did though thread a pass out to Andrew Smith on the left wing and as the danger seemed to have passed with defenders flooding back, the young striker calmly placed his shot passed Jones and inside the far post.

Wrexham were doing most of the attacking, but despite enjoying plenty of possession, they were not really finding a cutting edge in front of goal.

Eifion Wiliams, who played the full 90 minutes, Marc Williams, Silvio Spann, Matty Done, Robbie Garrett and Wes Baynes all got into decent positions, but failed to test the Stanley keeper.

The Reds were though back on level terms midway through the second half, when Wes Baynes produced a superb effort to float the ball passed Scottish keeper Kenny Arthur, but only after his initial free kick had rebounded straight back to him.

It was virtually one-way traffic for all of the second half and on 73 minutes Marc Williams helped himself to the winner when finishing off Matty Done's cross from the right wing.

This was a well deserved win by an experienced home team, although Accrington had done their best to hang onto that early lead.
