WHILE we might have lost our first game of the season in the totesport.com league against Tranmere Rovers, on another night we could easily have won the fixture convincingly.

The home side enjoyed two great opportunities to open the scoring, the first when Matty Wolfenden broke from the halfway line on five minutes, but only saw his effort rebound off the left hand goalpost with the keeper beaten.

Shortly afterwards, Lamie Sakho's header, from a Sam Wlliamson free kick, was directed straight at Joe Collister in the Rovers goal, who managed to make the save.

Then Tranmere took the lead after a mistake in midfield presented the ball to Ryan Fraughan and he unleashed a curling shot from 25-yards that flew into a top corner of Erwin Sak's goal, despite a diving effort to stop it from the Pole.

Full back Aaron Cresswell topped that effort with a strike out of nothing, that threaded its way through four players and beat Sak as it went into the net via the keeper's left hand upright.

It was a Lamine Sakho header on 55 minutes, which gave us a lifeline back into the match. Matty Hurdman's corner kick was meet by the Senegal striker, who directed his header downward and into the net.

Try as we might for the final 35 minutes, an equaliser just won't come, despite continued efforts from the players.

As the game went into added on time, Rovers' Tom Baker picked up a second yellow card, for stupidly kicking the ball away, and was duly sent off.
