An unexpected Johnny Hunt goal on 41 minutes, which was fumbled by home keeper Paul Rachubka, gave The Reds a deserved lead at half-time and one they would retain until the final whistle at Blackpool.

The first half was split with the home side dominating early on, with former Barnsley man Daniel Nardielloi having a great  chance with a header while Gary Taylor-Fletcher saw a 'goal' ruled out for offside in the first ten minutes.

However, the latter part of the period saw Wrexham on the front foot with 16-year-old midfielder Jamie Morton prominent.

Neil Taylor saw his firm header saved by the home keeper, Nathan Fairhurt had a 25-yarder fly just wide before skipper Johnny Hunt shot us in front four minutes before the break.

The Tangerines were reduced to ten-men just five minutes after the restart, when central defender Ashley Eastham was red-carded after pulling down Matty Wolfenden.

With the striker was through on goal, although some 25 yards out, and the challenge gave the referee little option but to dismiss the young defender.

On 70 minutes, it  was 2-0 as midfielder Rob Pearson was set up by fellow substitute Nick Rushton and calmly slotted the ball into the corner of the net.

However, within three minutes, the home side reduced the arrears as Rob Edwards' deft header at the near-post found its way into the back of Sam Russell's net.

Our two-goal advantage was restored with nine minutes remaining, as Ed Moss' corner was headed in at the near-post by Matty Wolfenden who reacted quickest and beat Paul Rachubka in the air.

Pool responded again within three minutes, as Louis Almond's 25-yard piledriver flew right into the top of Russell's net to make the score 3-2.

The Reds held on until the final whistle to triumph in what was a very enjoyable reserve team fixture, with both sides playing some good football.
