THIS AFTERNOON'S Pontin's League encounter at ShrewsburyTown saw the youngsters pull off a rare victory, as they downed the locals 2-0!

Matt Shaw and Mark Jones were the marksmen, with a goal in each half, although a fair amount of praise must go to keeper Matt Baker for producing five top class saves!

The following is a report from the Shrewsbury Town official website:

Town welcomed local rivals Wrexham to the Gay Meadow for their first home Pontin's League game of the season. Town had the majority of the pressure and chances but were denied by Matt Baker in the Wrexham goal and some wayward finishing.

Town put on some good pressure 10-minutes into the game with Ross Stephens breaking down the left, he crossed low into the box for Cramb but the Wrexham defender managed to get a foot in and put it behind for a Town corner. Stephens floated the ball into the box but could only find a Wrexham head, the ball dropped to Dave Edwards who hit in a superb first time from the edge of the box but Matt Baker was equal to the shot and pulled off a great save.

Dave Edwards was impressing in the early exchanges and he did well to pounce on an under hit Wrexham pass, he powered forward over the halfway line and then played a good ball into the run of Naylor on the left, he took a touch and then curled in a great cross to find Edwards and he got in a great first time header but again Baker pulled off another good stop.

Wrexham took the lead with their first real attack after 20 minutes when Chris Evans nicked the ball off Jake Sedgemore, he took the ball on towards the Town goal and chipped a lovely ball between Walton and Cadwallader to put Matt Shaw free in the Town box and he made no mistake chipping the ball over Hart to give the visitors a 1-0 win.

Tony Naylor was having another run out for Town and was seeing a lot of the ball, but he was unable to use it well and the couple of half chances he had went well wide. Cramb did really well to break past the Wrexham defence, he got into the box but unselfishly laid the ball across the goal to set-up Naylor but he delayed and allowed a Wrexham body to get in a block.

Mark JonesTown lost possession of the ball on the edge of their own box to Mark Jones, he curled in a well hit shot that flew low past Hart into the back of the net to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.

Shaw was impressing up front with his tireless running and Jones was running the show in the mddle of the park. Mention must also be made of Baker who kept the home side at bay with some fine goalkeeping and excellent reflexes.

Town were having their chances with Naylor firing wide on a couple of occasion. A good bit of pressure saw Thompson do well skipping in from the right, he drove in a low shot that Baker did well to save, the ball fell to Bragoli and he got a shot in on goal but that was blocked.

The ball was pushed quickly into Tony Naylor on the centre spot, he put a lovely headed flick to set Mark Thompson away down the right wing, he continued his run in on the Wrexham goal and then cut inside, he took the ball infield looking for the shot but elected to pass it low to Ross Stephens on the farside, he put in a great first time shot but again Baker showed good hands to block and then pounced on the rebound.

Town were having a lot of chances but couldn't get the goal they deserved, Thompson, Naylor and Egginton went clear but they just couldn't get the ball past the in-form Baker.
