BuryTHE DRAGONS once again included trialists Matty Shaw and Griff Jones in the starting eleven, but 6'4" striker Solomon Adesioye, another trialist who turned out for WithamTown in the Ryman League last season, had to settle for a place on the bench after being held up in traffic on his way to the Racecourse!

Joey Jones' side also welcomed back Jim Whitley for his first full run-out since picking up an injury at Brentford in mid-August.

The Shakers named a fairly experienced side that included Kop favourite (not!) Jon Newby in attack; the striker once again endearing himself to the faithful with two well taken goals either side of half time as his side leapfrogged the Dragons in the table courtesy of a 3-1 win.

In truth their victory was deserved for apart from a few half chances that fell to Mark Jones, Griff Jones and Whitley it looked more and more like it would be the visitors that would break the deadlock the longer the half wore on.

Indeed, only Lee Unsworth will know how he failed to convert a Newby cross with a free glancing header from six yards out when it looked certain he would score. Colin Kazim-Richards had already brought a save from Danny Evans with a glancing diving header, and left back David Buchanan gone close with a left-foot volley that flashed across the face of goal.

The goal the Shakers deserved finally arrived on 43 minutes when Jon Newby checked his run to stay onside before racing on to a long ball out from the back, showing the Dragons' defence a clean pair of heels, and slotting the ball past the advancing Evans from about 16 yards out.

Jim WhitleyThe second half was a disappointing affair with few chances, or action worthy of note, until at least its midway point when Adesioye, who'd replaced Shaw on 20 minutes, set up Mark Jones. The U21 international flicked the ball into the air but saw his left-foot volley drift wide.

Whitley shot straight at Shakers' keeper Greg Smith as the Dragons at last threatened to put some pressure on the visitors' goal, but on 78 minutes a rapid counter attack put Jon Newby away again and the striker once again beat Evans with a clinical finish.

However, the Dragons were given a brief lifeline when Mark Jones weaved his way into the box, and the ball eventually broke for Solly Adesioye whose shot looped goalwards off keeper Smith. The ball was undoubtedly going in, and may have already crossed the line before Griff Jones made sure from on (or over) the goal line.

But there was to be no dramatic comeback, and Terry Dunfield made it 3-1 from the penalty spot in added on time, after a foul by Evans on Daniel Douglas-Pringle.
