Our Background

Founded in 1994, as a response to a desire among many of the Club's fans in the Oswestry/Ellesmere/Shrewsbury area for a supporters' club of their own, we have grown steadily to achieve a membership of 175 (our target for next season is 200, and YOU can help us to achieve that).

Many new friendships have been forged as a result of involvement with the Shropshire Reds and we are very proud of the family atmosphere that we have successfully generated over the past eight years.

As we have expanded, so has the area from which we draw our members. There are now Shreds in Wrexham; Scotland; Lancashire; Yorkshire; the Isle of Man; London; and even Australia. All we ever ask of any new member is that they support Wrexham AFC with the same passion as the rest of us!!

Fundraising has developed impressively since our early days, and we have now raised over £20,000.00 worth of investment in a wide range of sponsorship projects. We have also pledged annual donations to the Football Club's loyal group of disabled supporters by Tony Millington - a gesture much appreciated by him and his colleagues.

In return, we have been able to enjoy a number of very special privileges, such as:-

Access to highly prized Wrexham AFC memorabilia;
(original shirts from major games; training strips; autographed matchballs; etc. etc.)

Four places on the official team photograph;
(with a framed print as a perfect souvenir of a memorable occasion)

Regular meetings with the Club's players & officials;

Opportunities to enjoy the Club's matchday hospitality;

The chance to win some unique prizes.

Our Activities

We hold Bi Monthly meetings, with Guest Speakers, and, in addition to these, we also organise a number of Quiz Nights and Pub Sports' Evenings. Often, these occasions are attended by teams of players from the Football Club.

We also arrange travel to away games, picking up in Oswestry. There are a whole host of members' competitions throughout the season to keep everyone on their toes (as an example, the winner of our 'Fantasy Football' League can expect to pocket around £300.00 in prize money!).

Previous guest speakers have included the following:-

From the Media: David Lovett & Les Evans (Evening Leader); Mark Currie & Ian Herbert (Daily Post); Ian Gwyn Hughes (BBC) & Bryn Law (Sky TV).

From Wrexham AFC: Denis Smith;Brian Flynn; Kevin Reeves; Joey Jones; Gary Bennett; Mel Pejic; Ian Rush; Mike Buxton; Steve Weaver; Tony Humes; Deryn Brace; Mark Cartwright; Andrew Marriott; Gareth Owen; Carlos Edwards; Dennis Lawrence; Marius Rovde; David Rhodes; Allan Thomas; Mrs. Babs DeRosa and Mr. Pryce Griffiths.

From the Club's past: Dixie McNeil; Graham Jones; Ian Moir; Stuart Mason; the nucleus of the club's magnificent 1977/78 Championship side, led by player manager Arfon Griffiths MBE. We've also been honoured by the company of Mr. John Neal, who spent an evening reminiscing with us, and, on another occasion, a memorable get together with many of his wonderful 1969/70 promotion side. We also arranged the 10th Anniversary reunion of the side that unforgettably beat Arsenal 2-1 in January 1992.

From the world of football: John Charles; Tommy Docherty; Nationwide League match official Mr. John Holbrook and FAW historian & Press Officer Ceri Stennett.

And we don't stop when the season ends, organising a number of trips throughout the summer months. These have included tours of both Anfield and Old Trafford, as well as two (extremely popular!) visits to the Wrexham Lager Brewery.

Full details of these events are circulated to all our members in a bi-monthly newsletter - so that everyone has an equal opportunity to join in the fun.

Each of our Club Nights commences with a Business Meeting, allowing ample opportunity for discussing opinions/suggestions. All of our members are Very Important People, and we value greatly their ideas for developing our support for Wrexham AFC.

If this has succeeded in whetting your appetite then we would be delighted to hear from you. You'll find a very friendly, enthusiastic, welcome, and the kind of opportunities to become more closely involved with Wrexham AFC that -until now - you've only been able to dream about.

A membership application form can be found on the Membership page.
