OUR Youth team slipped up 2-1 at home to Burnley, when the two teams faced at a windswept Colliers Park this morning.

The first incident of note was an injury to the referee and the need for one of the crowd to step forward and takeover on the line - fortunately there was a qualified official watching from the sidelines.

The young Reds were enjoying a fair amount of the ball, but fell behind before the break.

An equaliser arrived early in the second half, when George Stewart's cross from the right wing allowed Obi Anoruo to nip behind the Clarets' defence, beat the offside trap and score from close range.

It was only a few minutes later that the visitors regained their lead, this time scoring from the penalty spot, after the returning Chris Marriott - out for several weeks with a broken hand - upended the Burnley forward to concede the kick.

Coach Joey Jones was not too downhearted: "I always like to win, but we competed well and had a couple of good chances to have got more goals ourselves."
