FAW Yth Cup - Wrexham 9 Prestatyn 0

Posted on: Tue 23 Mar 2010

THE Young Dragons eased their way to a comfortable third round success in this much delayed Welsh Youth Cup outing against Prestatyn Town at Colliers Park.

An injury to winger Louis Moss in the warm up, meant that Rob Pearson stepped up from the bench before the game had even started. This left coach Andy Davies with just two subs, one a goalkeeper, as he was short a few players from the squad going into the game anyway.

Following a 20 minute delay to the kick-off, caused by traffic congestion on the A55 near Chester, it didn't take the home side long to establish a lead, when midfielder Brian Summerskill fired home the opener on six minutes.

Wrexham had the ball in the net again a few minutes later, but this time referee John Swindley ruled it out for pushing following a set piece.

Striker Nick Rushton extended the home advantage on 23 minutes, as Prestatyn looked to contain the Dragons for the rest of the first half.

Just a minute after the break and it was 3-0, when Nick Rushton grabbed his second of the night.

Not to be out done, goalscoring full back Declan Walker continued his habit of notching in cup ties by firing home in the 52nd and 53rd minutes.

Front runner Rushton completed his hat-trick on 67 minutes, when scoring our sixth of the evening.

Substitute Ed Moss was on target just sixty second later, as the visitors were having difficulty keeping in touch with their opponents.

The barrage continued and an eighth goal duly arrived on 79 minutes, as Walker too completed his hat-trick.

Not content with their tally, the youngsters made it 9-0 on 87 minutes through Ed Moss, and the same player passed up the chance of a third hat-trick of the game in added on time, when he missed from the penalty spot!

That brings our running total to 21 goals in the competition this season and, as yet, we have not conceded.

The other ties will be played this weekend, with the draw to be made early next week, when the regional pairings are done away with, so it could be a long trip south of the lads.
