In this unprecedented time, football clubs across the country face very uncertain futures – which is we are calling on Wrexham AFC supporters to Unite To Save the Town.
The financial future is uncertain for football clubs at all levels, including Wrexham AFC, and there is no obvious date for when we can resume our ‘normal’ football activities.
Football has rightly taken a back seat at a time of national crisis, but from the club’s point of view, the COVID-19 pandemic cost us £250,000 in lost match-day income. Furthermore, with non-urgent work shut down, we have had to close the Racecourse and furlough all paid staff – denying us sources of income such as the club shop.
As detailed in our updates, the club has financial reserves but these are being eaten into and we have a rent payment to make on the Racecourse soon too.
Wrexham AFC boasts a 156-year history, central to which has been your incredible support. Wrexham fans have famously come together when the club needs them most – and we need your support again.
Your support has already saved this football club and your generosity has, frankly, been far beyond what has sometimes been deserved.
We are not naïve to the facts of the club’s current situation and continue to work on a solution to launch the AGM proceedings.
But regardless of the outcome of the AGM, we have a duty to preserve our historic football club for generations to come. Together, we can save the club and ensure we are in a position of financial stability for football’s return.
These are – and will continue to be – difficult times for everybody, and Wrexham AFC are fully aware of how difficult a time this is for any fundraising.
In appreciation of this, we are proud to be uniting to save The Town and to benefit the town too – Nightingale House Hospice and Awyr Las will each receive five per cent of any money raised. By helping us, you are helping them too.
We are also offering rewards to any supporters who donate certain amounts to our UTST fundraiser, as detailed below. Any amount contributed will be hugely appreciated in these circumstances, however, and you can donate without claiming a reward.
These rewards include the likes of season tickets, hospitality, signed items, match-worn memorabilia and a tour of the Racecourse from club legend Mickey Thomas.
Our UTST fundraiser will run for three months and we will provide regular updates on the progress made – and the difference your contributions make.
