Amber Lightfoot and Ava Suckley both hit hat-tricks as Wrexham ran riot at home to Airbus to claim a comprehensive 9-0 home win in the Genero Adran North.
Lightfoot scored four goals and Suckley three, with TJ Dickens and Rebecca Pritchard also on target as Wrexham went top of the league by maintaining their winning start to the season.
It was all the more remarkable, considering top scorer Rosie Hughes was missing too, as Wrexham’s attacking strength in depth was made clear for all to see.
With Hughes and teenage star Lili Jones both unavailable, Ava Suckley came into the starting line-up. Ella Clifton-Stringer also made her full return from injury to start at right-back.
Suckley took just four minutes to give Wrexham the lead too – heading in from TJ Dickens’ corner, despite a defender’s efforts to head the ball off the line.
Mia Roberts unleashed Amber Lightfoot on the left on 12 minutes, with a brilliant long ball over the top, but the Airbus keeper was out quickly to close it down.
Dickens doubled the lead on 14 minutes, however, with a brilliant 20-yard free-kick – curling into the top corner after ex-Red Phoebe Rintoul hauled Lightfoot down.
Just three minutes later, Suckley’s cool, low finish made it 3-0 to Wrexham and Pritchard crossed for Amber Lightfoot to fire the fourth under the keeper’s body on 24 minutes.
Wrexham continued to press for more, and a brilliant passing move from back-to-front ended with Pritchard being well closed down by the keeper again in the 32nd minute.
Dickens nearly made it five on 38 minutes, with an audacious chip from the edge of the area, but the goalkeeper back-pedalled to claim it under the bar.
Lightfoot did get the fifth on the stroke of half-time, however, with a powerful low finish – following in after Pritchard was unable to get to a free-kick.
Airbus were better after the break, with Wrexham taking longer to get going. An excellent attacking move with Clifton-Stringer and Pritchard involved down the right, ended with Lightfoot firing in her third from 18 yards on 58 minutes, however.
Suckley almost completed her hat-trick on 63 minutes, albeit in slightly fortuitous fashion, as her right-wing cross struck the foot of the post.
But Wrexham did not have to wait too much longer for their goal – Pritchard converting another Suckley cross at the near post for a deserved goal of her own on 71 minutes.
Two minutes later, Lightfoot scored her fourth of the game – firing in low from 20 yards, with a shot that clipped the inside of the post.
Suckley did complete her hat-trick on 86 minutes, with a smart finish from substitute Ruby Jones’ long all, to round off a dominant win.
