PREVIEW | Fleetwood v Wrexham

Reds head to the north-west coast to face Fleetwood

2 August 2021

Wrexham's third pre-season friendly comes around quickly as Phil Parkinson's side travel to Poolfoot Farm to face Fleetwood Town.

Continued Progress

Parkinson's side put in a resounding performence on Saturday picking up their first summer win against Tamworth at the Lamb Ground. A number of senior players and trialists were given an outing in front of just shy of 1,200 supporters in the Midlands - most of which made the trip from North Wales. They wouldn't be dissapointed after Tyler French gave Wrexham the lead before Jordan Ponticelli, a trialist and Dior Angus double brushed the Lambs aside.

It showed progress made with Wrexham's fitness levels even at this early stage looking good and new signings such as Paul Mullin, Shaun Brisley and Liam McAllinden. Young Max Cleworth caught the eye of many with an assured defensive performence and an outstanding assist for Wrexham's fifth.

Changes Afoot

Parkinson is expected to utilise some of those who've been either unavailable or unused during the trip to Tamworth. It's an oppurtunity to once again adapt to any new patern of play and cast an eye over the trialists who continue to jostle for a Wrexham deal. Luke Young and Harry Lennon are yet to feature this summer but could potentially be available, whilst Jake Hyde is also set to return.

We've Met Before

Wrexham travelled to Poolfoot in the summer of 2019 for a pre-season friendly with the Cod Army running out 1-0 victors. Our last competative game came in the 2011/12 campaign at Highbury with the sides drawing 1-1 with goals from Jake Speight and a Mark Creighton own-goal. Our last meeting at the Racecourse saw Wrexham take three points via goals from Speight and Andy Morrell.

Team News

As mentioned, Hyde and Lennon could be set for a return whilst Young could also feature. Forward Liam McAllinden appeared for the first time on Saturday. Devonte Redmond has been recovering from a knock in recent weeks whilst Jamie Reckord remains unavailable.
