REPORT | Ruthin Town Youth 1-13 Wrexham Youth

Young Red Dragons return with a win.

22 August 2021

Dan Nolan's Under-18's returned to action after 19-months away from competitive matches and marked it with a comprehensive victory.

13 proved to be lucky for Wrexham as they hit double digits past Ruthin Town to progress in the FAW Youth Cup Second Round.

Striker Dan Jones stole the show with a quartet of goals whilst substitute Connor Ross scored a hatrick after coming off the bench on 67 minutes. Oliver Hitchcox, Owen Cushion, Kai Evans, Joe Fountain, Tom Jenkins and Jack Towse all also found the scoresheet.

Wrexham opened the game in perfect style with Jones finding the net after just two minutes to put Nolan's side ahead. However, despite the scoreline Ruthin played some good football and found themselves in the Wrexham half on occasion. Their pesistance paid off as Ifan Jones got on the end of a cross from the left to head past goalkeeper Louis Parr.

On 33 minutes with Wrexham settled, Jones netted his second to put his side in front before Hitchcox dispatched in the box to make it three.

Jones completed a hatrick on 38 minutes before Cushion got in on the act to score four goals in the space of just nine minutes to take a 5-1 lead into the break.

Manager Jamie Hulse and assistant Ash Simm made a double change for Ruthin at the break, but it would prove fruitless as Kai Evans calmly slotted home a penalty two minutes into the second period. Jones quickly added his fourth and Wrexham's seventh moments later.

Joe Fountain scored the goal of the game for number eight, having moved from right to left back, he opted to get forward and cut inside before curling a superbly placed shot into the top corner from distance.

Tom Jenkins added another after 67 minutes before Connor Ross entered the field of play as a substitute to inflict more punishment on the opposition. The 17-year old had just 23 minutes to make his mark, but make his mark he did.

After four minutes on the pitch Ross grabbed his first before adding another nine minutes later - with Trowse scoring inbetween. He added his third and Wrexham's 13th with six minutes to play.

Wrexham now await their opponents in the next round.
