STADIUM NEWS | Kop banner installed ahead of new season

19 August 2021

Wrexham AFC are proud to present the latest addition to the Racecourse Ground, with the famous Kop end receiving a makeover in the form of a new, large banner.

Since the removal of the Kop’s iconic barriers, we have ensured the end does not lie bare this season with the banner covering the terrace and celebrating our partners/partneriaid.

With a huge Wrexham crest in the middle, the banner acknowledges the Club’s partners in the Gateway Project, Wrexham Council, the Welsh Government and Glyndwr University Wrexham who will all have a significant contribution to make if the owner's ambitions for the Racecourse Ground are to be realised.  The Kop Stand is one part of the Gateway Project that includes ambitious plans for the redevelopment of the area including Wrexham General train station and the town’s transport infrastructure.

The planned redevelopment of the Kop is one of the most anticipated projects in Wrexham, with the Council having applied for public sector funding from the Levelling Up fund to support the plans.

Plans for the new Kop stand and the Gateway Project were first outlined in 2019 and took a step forward with the acquisition of key plots of land last summer.

Also on the new Kop banner are our Primary Local Sponsor, Ifor Williams Trailers.

They are joined by our other key partners – TikTok, Aviation American Gin, and Expedia – as well as our kit manufacturers, Macron.

On the new banner, Executive Director Humphrey Ker said: “We are all excited about the anticipated redevelopment of the Kop, but we were keen not to let the stand sit bare for the new season and create a negative impression of the Club and town.

“The new banner was a fitting way to acknowledge the support of both key partners in the Gateway Project, and the Club’s sponsors. When it is removed, it will signify that we have made progress and work can commence towards our objective of improving the Racecourse Ground, to be capable of hosting International Sporting Events and a fitting home to Wrexham AFC.”
