Wrexham AFC Women return to action on Sunday, looking to extend their current three-match winning streak in a key top-of-the-table clash against unbeaten Llandudno Ladies.
The match, on Sunday December 12, has once again been moved to Brymbo Sports & Social Club, where Wrexham beat Denbigh 18-0 a fortnight ago, and the game kicks off at 2pm.
Top four face-off
Going into the game, unbeaten Llandudno sit third in the Genero Adran North league table, just one point ahead of Wrexham AFC Women.
With the top two teams – Connah’s Quay Nomads and Bethel – also facing each other, and just three points separating the top four, this could be a key weekend at the top.
Wrexham and Nomads have played one more game than Bethel and Llandudno, so the latter two will be looking to put themselves in commanding positions with a game in hand.
Rosie faces former team… again
For the second consecutive match, Rosie Hughes will take on a former team. Wrexham’s top scorer hit an incredible nine goals in the 18-0 win against Denbigh Town last time out, but Llandudno will provide a sterner test.
Hughes is regarded as one of their best strikers, and top scorer, from their seven seasons in the Welsh Premier Women’s League, while she was also instrumental in the run to the Welsh Cup final in 2016.
Since joining Wrexham in the summer, from Denbigh, Hughes has led the Club’s goalscoring charts. Her nine goals in the win against her former team last time out took her to 14 league goals in six Genero Adran North appearances, and 24 in 11 competitive games in total so far this season.
Winning streak
Wrexham’s revival under manager Steve Dale has seen them collect three consecutive wins since Mari Edwards’ departure.
After 3-1 wins away to Llanfair United and Airbus UK, the Red Dragons were in ruthless form in the snow against Denbigh a fortnight ago – running in 18 goals against the struggling bottom club.
Llandudno, meanwhile, are in even better form – they have won four of their five matches so far – their only dropped points coming against Bethel, who have an identical record to them.
Last time out, they beat Airbus 4-2, with Maddie Williams scoring twice and Stacey Tradewell and India Shea Hassall also on target.
Team News
Del Morgan is available again, and could return in goal in place of Kat Jones, while Mia Roberts is back in contention after injury – having scored for Wrexham AFC Women Under-19s on Friday night.
In-form winger Amber Lightfoot is not available, however, with Rebecca Pritchard in contention for a return to the starting line-up.
