Wrexham's win at Dover wasn't pretty, but it was effective, and the job now is to follow those three points up with a home win against a side which is suffering a dip in form.
Jordan Davies' corner brought us the three points at The Crabble, to the relief of fans and players alike as The Red Dragons had battled against a tricky pitch and stubborn opponents.
Phil Parkinson will have to make at least one change from that match, as Harry Lennon picked up a fifth yellow card, ruling him out of the next game. He ad his fellow centre backs all got onto the end of set pieces at Dover and, although they weren't able to take their chances, Wrexham's ability to create chances from set pieces will be crucial against a side whose defensive record is not great.
Weymouth slipped into the bottom three last weekend after losing toTorquY, and only bottom club Dover have conceded more goals than them in the division this season. However, Athletic showed last Saturday that just because they have a leaky defence doesn't automatically mean they'll make life easy for a side at the other end of the table.
The Terras have been more successful at the other end of the pitch than their league position would suggest, as only one side in the bottom nine have scored more then them.
Still, they come into the match on a losing streak of four games, matching their worst run of the season so far, and they've only taken points from two sides which are currently in the top half of the table: in September they followed up a superb 4-3 win at Solihull Moors by drawing at home to Notts County.
HEAD TO HEAD
Wrexham have a 100% record against Weymouth after 4 games, having completed our second league double against them last season.
We first came across them in the 2008-9 season, but The Terras were in awful turmoil. Crippling financial problems made it impossible to compete on an equal footing with the rest of the division.
With debt mounting, they were forced to select their youth team in a home game against Rushden and Diamonds, and lost 9-0.
By the time they came to The Racecourse on the last day of the season they had already been relegated, and although their side was no longer so youthful, it still had a makeshift look about it. A slow-paced, meaningless game between a doomed team and a side which featured six players making their last appearance for Wrexham meander along until 2 goals in 3 minutes around the half hour mark by Michael Proctor and Ryan Flynn decided the game.
Last season we enjoyed a dramatic comeback win at Weymouth, coming back from 2-0 down at the break to win 3-2 through Hall-Johnson’s mishit cross in injury time.
The Terras also caused us problems in the return match, but their stubborn resistance was broken in the 66th minute by Theo Vassell, and Jordan Ponticelli poached his first goal of the campaign in the 79th minute to make victory certain.
Vassell is the only Wrexham player to score more than once past Weymouth, having also scored a solo goal in the match at the Bob Lucas Stadium. At least, that’s what the record books say: in reality he probably ought to have been credited with our first goal as well, but it’s been attributed officially to Adi Yussuf.
