NEW YEAR, NEW CONTRACT | Jordan Davies signs new Wrexham deal until June 2025

Midfielder commits long-term future to boyhood Club

31 December 2021

Wrexham AFC are delighted to announce midfielder Jordan Davies has signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract at the Football Club, running until the end of June 2025.

Davies, 23, from Coedpoeth, returned to his boyhood club in 2020, having previously come through the academy at Wrexham before securing a move to Brighton.

He made his professional debut with the Red Dragons last season, and has proved a hugely popular player among supporters – winning Young Player of the Season at the end of his first campaign.

Davies finished 2020/21 in fine goalscoring form, hitting eight goals in the final 14 games, and has continued that this season with nine so far – taking him to 17 goals in 61 Wrexham appearances.

On committing his future to his boyhood club, Davies said: “It means a lot for me, especially my family.

“We’ve been through a little bit of a rough time but it’s finally some good news and hopefully a light at the end of the tunnel.

“I think the project here is amazing and what can come from this in terms of the potential growth of the Club was an opportunity too good to turn down.

“To all the lads, the fans mean a lot. But for me, as a local lad, it is different – it hits harder when we win and it hits harder when we lose.

“I think we can definitely get out of this league, and then League Two is easier to get out of in many ways once you get there. I can see us being in League One in 3-4 years’ time.

“I think from myself and the Club’s point of view, we were on a similar page from the get-go, it just had to be terms agreed and we were both looking up – I can’t wait to try to get the Club there.

“To help get the Club promoted is my first target now and personally and for the Club, to get promotion would mean so much.”

Manager Phil Parkinson said : “It’s very important, and great for us to get Jordan signed up. He’s a very good player and getting better all the time.

“It’s really crucial for the Club to sign our best young players up and make sure we keep them because we’re trying to build something up both in the short-term and the long-term. We see Jordan as pivotal to that.

“Credit to the chairmen for providing the funding to get this deal done. I’m very, very pleased and I’m sure the supporters will be delighted too.

“It is a statement, because Jordan’s contract was coming to an end in the summer and you’re always in a vulnerable position when you have a player whose contract is expiring.  It’s one we wanted to make because it shows we really mean business in the short-term and the long-term, a real sign of intent.

“Wrexham is a Club going forward. We’ve got excellent ownership, and everyone can see from the outside and inside that the Club is trying to build back up to where it was. The potential for support here is a huge factor, and players want to play in front of full houses.

“There’s a real attraction about playing for Wrexham at the moment and I think the signing of Jordan Davies is key to that.”
