Paul Edwards is over halfway in his hike from John O'Groats to Land's End

6 July 2021

Local hero and fundraiser, Paul Edwards, called at the Racecourse Ground yesterday as his mammoth solo John O’Groats to Land’s End hike continued.

Paul, 56 – a marathon and ultra-marathon runner from Penycae – is walking the length of Britain to raise money for the Hope House & Ty Gobaith children’s hospices… all while dressed as Wrexham AFC co-chairman Ryan Reynolds' Marvel superhero, Deadpool.

The latest leg of his journey saw him clock another 19 miles on the road to Land’s End, and Paul has now walked more than 570 miles in total since setting off in June.

His route, which took him across the border into North Wales on the way to a night in his home village, included a stop at the Racecourse Ground.

Paul’s stop included photo and filming opportunities, and a chat with Racecourse Community Foundation Joint Business Development Officer, Gemma Owen.

Describing the stop at the Football Club as among the highlights of a full day back in North Wales, Paul added in his daily update: “I’m only just over halfway but today has been so memorable.”

Paul is aiming to raise £10,000 towards Hope House & Ty Gobaith on his unsupported, solo hike and you can sponsor him here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/paul-edwards1000mileshike

Wrexham AFC Disability Liaison Officer, Kerry Evans, said: “We’re proud at Wrexham AFC to be Ty Gobaith Bronze Champions, and to support the important work being done by Hope House & Ty Gobaith.

“What Paul is doing, however, once again goes above and beyond. His fundraising efforts are awe-inspiring and we’re glad he was able to stop at the Racecourse Ground for photos and filming on his ‘home leg’ of his incredible solo hike.

“It’s been great to see him pass the halfway mark, and we’ll all be cheering him on from afar as he continues on the next 400+ miles to Land’s End.”

All at Wrexham AFC would like to wish Paul all the best with the rest of his fundraising hike, which is due to finish in Land’s End on July 22. Any supporters wishing to support his fundraising efforts can visit Paul’s JustGiving page.
