SIGNED | Youth international Erin Lovett returns to Wrexham AFC Women

Teenage defender returns to The Dragons

3 July 2021

Wrexham AFC Women are pleased to confirm the signing of teenage centre-back Erin Lovett for the 2021/22 season.

Lovett, 18, previously played for Wrexham at junior level and was most recently with Crewe Alexandra.

She was part of Wrexham’s title-winning under-16s team in 2018, alongside fellow new signing Libby Mackenzie.

And the Welsh defender – who has been capped at youth level – has now returned to North Wales as Wrexham AFC Women prepare for their first season in the new FAW Tier 2 North League.

On signing, Lovett said: “I’m very happy to be signing for Wrexham AFC Women again, and I’m looking forward to the new season.

“It’s going to be really good. I’m hoping it will be a good season for us, where we can keep improving.

“As a women’s footballer, the backing from Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds is great news. Women’s football is continuing to improve, and hopefully we can continue to progress further and further.”

On Lovett’s return, Head of Female Football Gemma Owen said: “Erin was a player that really impressed us at youth level and we were proud to see her represent Wales while at Wrexham.

“We were not surprised to see her progress in the women’s game, but we are delighted to be in a position to draw players of Erin’s calibre back to the Club.

“With the backing of our new owners, we have big ambitions for the new season and being in a position to strengthen our squad in the way we have stands us in good stead.”
