STADIUM UPDATE | WREXRENT STAND REDEVELOPMENT

Groundwork continues as concourse refurbishment and platform take shape

7 July 2021

With the start of the 2021/22 season just a month away, redevelopment work on the WREXRENT Stand continues.

As previously outlined, supporters in the WREXRENT Stand for the coming season can look forward to a refurbished concourse, a new kiosk, better light and new toilet facilities when they return to the Racecourse Ground.

Furthermore, the Club’s second accessible platform will be built on the Mold Road side of the WREXRENT paddock as we continue to take steps to ensure improved provision for disabled supporters.

All above ground demolition work in the concourse area has been completed, and the first reinforced concrete floor slabs have been poured this week.

Seats have been removed from the paddock, where the new accessible platform will be located, and surveys of the existing openings adjacent to the platform have been completed.

Attention will now turn to completing the reinforced concrete slab works and dig and drainage works.

Furthermore, the installation of the new kiosk’s secondary steelwork and roller shutter supports is set to be completed in the next two weeks.

For the platform, reinforced concrete slab and ramp works are to be installed this week.

Wrexham AFC CEO, Fleur Robinson said: “The Racecourse Ground has been a hive of activity in the past few weeks and it is exciting to see these works progressing well.

“Everyone here is excited for the return of supporters to our historic stadium and we hope these updates whet the appetite of fans eagerly awaiting the chance to come home.

Significant progress has been made but consistent with the challenges facing the wider construction sector arising out of the covid-19 pandemic, our contractor Buckingham Group have encountered some significant delays in receiving orders for materials, including some specialist requirements. When these difficulties are combined with the fact that the stadium hasn’t been open to spectators since March 2020, after discussion with the Contractors, we decided it was prudent to delay the opening of the stand until the Woking game on the 11th September.

"As soon as the delays were quantified, we moved to make a decisive decision so as to remove potential future uncertainty and disappointment.

“It’s an exciting project but we’re aware of regular supporters who use the stand who will be disappointed not to get back to their seat for our opening two games.

“We have, however, decided to communicate this to supporters as early as possible to avoid disappointment further down the line and hope to have you back in the stand by our fixture with Woking on September 11th”.

Season-ticket holders for the WREXRENT Stand will still be able to purchase their ticket for the stand, but will be allocated alternative seats for the first two matches of the campaign.

The works are all part of co-chairmen Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds’ commitment to provide improved stadium facilities from which to enjoy Wrexham AFC’s exciting new chapter.
