Wrexham AFC are pleased to announce the signing of midfielder Charlie Trafford on a short-term deal following a successful trial, subject to international clearance.
The Canada-born midfielder joins the club having last played with Hamilton Academical in the Scottish Premier League, departing the Accies in May 2021.
Capped three times by his country in games against Ghana, South Korea and Scotland, the 29-year old has experience playing top-flight football across Europe.
Trafford has represented IFK Mariehamn, Turun Palloseura and later Kuopion Palloseura– the latter of whom he scored the goal of the season and earned player of the year in 2014 – in Finland.
He has also played in the Ekstraklasa (Poland) for Korona Kielce and Sandecja Nowy Sącz before a brief return to Scandanavia with Finnish outfit Rovaniemen Palloseura.
In 2017 he came to the UK signing a three-year deal with Inverness and featured just short of 100 times with the Championship club before a season with Hamilton in the Premier League.
Upon signing Trafford said “I’m delighted [to sign], it’s been a long summer but I’m very excited to get going, it’s a brilliant project and something really cool here.
“I like to be a holding midfielder and as soon as the gaffer called me saying this is a position that they’ve been looking at bringing in, you don’t turn it down.
“I’m adaptable, funny enough you sign for the first time in England and end up in Wales! I’ve played all around the world in different cultures, different people from all over and have that ability to get into the group quickly and help as a leader and be a team guy”.
“I’ve played in so many styles that I’ve had to adapt my game over the years, so coming here we’re a top team in the league and the gaffer wants to get the ball and play, but you have to come in and win the fight in this league so I’m happy to come in and mix it up like that and get going”
Manager Phil Parkinson was also pleased with the addition saying “We’re pleased to welcome Charlie to the Club.
“The deal gives us a chance to take an extended look at him, and to see if he can force his way into the team in the coming weeks and months.”
