Wrexham make it two wins from two as Evans hits hat-trick

15 September 2021

Wrexham AFC Youth made it two wins from two to begin their National League Alliance title defence, running out convincing 6-0 winners at Bradford Park Avenue.

Kai Evans hit a hat-trick whilst Dan Jones (brace) and Dan Davies netted to sweep Bradford aside on a scortching afternoon at the Horsfall Stadium.

Evans gave Wrexham the lead with just six minutes on the clock before Davies hit a rocket into the top left corner to make it 2-0 before the break. The second half saw a manic five minutes as Wrexham scored four to put any comeback from Park Avenue to bed with 25 minutes left to play.

Wrexham began the game in confident mood having won 7-2 at Colliers Park seven days previous and that told as Evans calmly slotted home the opener with less than ten minutes gone.

The first half would, however, prove to be frustrating with chances going begging mixed with some superb work from BPA keeper Liam Hall. Joe Fountain hit the post in the early exchanges.

Davies however eventually found the second breakthrough after a fine save from Hall but the rebound was picked up and drilled home, despite the goalkeeper getting a touch.

Half-Time: Bradford Park Avenue 0-2 Wrexham

The hosts began the second half brightly but in truth didn't test Louis Parr in the Wrexham goal. The Red Dragons turned up the heat on the hour mark and put an end to any comeback. Jones, who'd seen an effort fly wide moments earlier finally got his name on the scoresheet with a good finish one on one before Evans rounded the keeper after a great ball from Will Mountfield.

Less than a minute later, Jones added his second and Wrexham's fifth as Bradford heads dropped and the sixth and final goal gave Evans his third from close range.

Wrexham made some changes and the game eventually ran it's course, with Fountain hitting the woodwork a further two times and the goalkeeper making some fine stops to keep the scoring down.

Wrexham now move on to face Marine in their next league game next Wednesday.
