Wrexham fall to first defeat of the season

14 September 2021

Wrexham AFC Women boss Mari Edwards tasted a competitive defeat for the first time since taking over as manager with a 3-1 loss to Pwllheli.

Seven days after kicking off their 2021/22 Adran North league campaign, Wrexham entered the Adran Trophy against Pwllheli, a side they'd picked up three points against just a week earlier.

Four goals in ten minutes was the tale of the game as the side from Gwynedd took the points in the opening group game of the new competition.

Charley Davies opened the scoring on 66 minutes before Magi Hughes doubled the advantage three minutes later. Katie Bowe hit the third on 74 minutes before Rosie Hughes replied for Wrexham.

Hughes would have an oppurtunity in the final ten minutes but fluffed her lines in front of goal and eventually Pwllheli ran home comforable winners in what was a frustrating afternoon for Wrexham who never really got going.

Goalkeeper Kat Jones came in for Del Morgan and put in a superb performence, keeping the scores level for the most part with some smart saves between the sticks. Chances were truly at a premium but winger Libby Mackenzie couldn't find the net with two glorious chances in each half at 0-0.

Wrexham now move on to their FAW Cup match away to Llanfair United on Sunday.
