Mari Edwards turns to former Corwen team-mate to fill defensive gap

5 September 2021

Wrexham AFC Women are pleased to announce the signing of defender Natasha Commins, who slotted straight into the team that beat Pwllheli on Sunday.

Commins was registered in time to start the first Genero Adran North game of the season at the heart of the defence.

With captain Abbey Hughes out injured, awaiting knee surgery, Commins’ arrival bolsters Mari Edwards’ defensive options.

Commins and Edwards are former team-mates, having played together at junior level in Corwen, and the defender was pleased to be reunited.

“I’ve known Mari for years,” she said. “She asked me to come to training, I really enjoyed it and decided to sign.

“I was thrown straight in for my first game after being registered, and it was tough having had a break from the game, but it was good to get back into it.”

On the signing, Edwards added: “I’m really happy to have Tash on board. She’s a strong, defensive player – not afraid to go into tackles, not afraid to be the last defender – and her personality fits the team well too.”
