CLUB NEWS | Club to enter Reserve team into Central League

2 August 2022

Wrexham AFC are pleased to confirm that it will enter a Reserve team into The Central League for the upcoming 2022/23 campaign.

The League, which provides important development opportunities for young players as they seek to progress from youth football to the first-team environment, expanded to become a national competition in 2014, for the first time in its 103-year history.

Wrexham AFC manager, Phil Parkinson, said: “It was very important that we improved the games programme for our young professionals, and also those out of the team. Dave Jones will be running the team and we’ll play our home games at Nantwich, who we have a great relationship with.

“It’s a decision which was needed for the Club to progress. As everyone knows, last year we gave six of our young players professional contracts, but we have to look to improve them and give them every chance of bridging the gap to first-team football. This is a nice stepping stone to that.”

This season’s Central League fixtures begin in September and will be announced in due course.
