CLUB NEWS | Rory Watson to provide short-term cover

Goalkeeper in Saturday’s squad following injury to Dibble

4 August 2022

Wrexham AFC have moved to sign goalkeeper Rory Watson as a short-term back-up on a non-contract basis, following injury to Christian Dibble.

The 26-year-old, who was most recently at Scunthorpe United, started his career at Hull City and has also had loan spells with Gainsborough Trinity and North Ferriby.

Watson will be in the squad for this weekend’s fixture against Eastleigh, after manager Phil Parkinson confirmed a “serious knee injury” to Dibble, sustained in Tuesday’s pre-season friendly at Caernarfon Town.

Parkinson said: “We’re grateful to Rory, who has come in as back-up for this weekend’s game following the unfortunate injury to Christian. We plan to sit down on Monday and work on a solution for the longer term.”

“I really feel for Christian, because it looks like a very serious injury. We wish him all the best and hopefully we’ll get him back fit and stronger than ever.”
