SIGNED | Wrexham AFC Women sign Lauren McCaffrey

Teenage striker joins to bolster attacking options

24 August 2022

Wrexham AFC Women are delighted to confirm the signing of teenage striker Lauren McCaffrey, who bolsters Steve Dale’s attacking options ahead of the new season.

McCaffrey, 18, came through the AFC Telford United youth setup, and scored 27 goals at Under-18s level, aged just 16.

She made her senior debut at the same age, before moving to Shifnal Town – ending last season in goalscoring form with a hat-trick against Port Vale and the match-winner on the final day against Hednesford Town.

And now on signing for Wrexham, McCaffrey said: “It feels great. All the coaches and the team have been really welcoming and I’m just glad to have this opportunity to play for Wrexham.

“I’ll hopefully contribute goals – I know we’ve already got Rosie Hughes, and I’ve heard a lot about her and saw her finishing in training. She’s got a good head on her, and I’m looking forward to hopefully playing alongside her up top.”

Manager Steve Dale added: “We are very happy to announce that Lauren will be joining us this season at Wrexham.

“She comes into the squad after impressing us during training. She has a great attitude and wants to learn and improve each week. She will hopefully contribute to more goals this season having a fantastic record last year at Shifnal Ladies.

“We’re excited to see Lauren transfer her quality from the training sessions into the games going into the new season. Lauren is a young player that will add more firepower to the forwards we already have at the club. We can’t wait to see her in action this season.”
