Wrexham AFC Women are delighted to announce the signing of former Wales Under-19 international midfielder Lauryn Lyons for the 2022/23 season.
Lyons adds a wealth of top-flight experience to Steve Dale’s squad, having previously played for Cardiff City, Swansea City and Pontypridd in the Welsh Women’s Premier League.
Originally from North Wales, Lyons has youth international honours at Under-17 and Under-19 level, and has previously been called up to the full Welsh squad too.
After recovering from serious injury, she featured for Pontypridd in the Adran Premier last season, but has now returned North and has completed her move to Wrexham.
On signing, Lauryn said: “I love what the Club is about – the publicity they’ve got and the funding that they put into the women’s team is all prospects that I love to hear about so I’m happy.
“I’m over the moon to be back in North Wales… even just the fact my family can watch me playing again. It’s been years since they’ve seen me play so being back at home is fantastic.
“I’m hoping I can add a little bit of my own little flair to it. I like to think I’m quite a positive player, and a positive person to be around so I want to add some character on and off the pitch. I’m looking forward to getting to know the girls a bit better and hopefully we can get some good results this season.”
Manager Steve Dale said: “We’re delighted to have Lauryn on board with us this season. When a player approaches you with the experience that Lauryn has over her playing career it was a no-brainer to get her involved with us at Wrexham.
“She brings a wealth of experience for someone who is 22 years old with her Welsh Premier League stint at the likes of Cardiff, Swansea & Pontypridd.
“We feel that she will add a lot of quality to our young squad and we’re extremely proud to have her on board. She will add a lot of competition to the squad going into the new season.”
