REPORT | Chorley Youth 1-2 Wrexham AFC Youth

Second-half goals keep winning streak going

23 February 2022

Dan Jones and Jacob Milner scored second-half goals as Wrexham came from behind to beat Chorley 2-1 and maintain their winning streak.

Sullivan Barker netted before the break, but Jones and Milner turned the game around after the break as Wrexham earned a fourth consecutive win.

With Kai Evans out injured, and Aaron James and Oli Hitchcox among the other notable absentees for Dan Nolan’s side, James Rainbird started the game and Cai Evans was on the bench.

Wrexham created the early chances, and Jacob Milner’s mazy run ended with him drawing a save from Chorley keeper Max Woolham on 14 minutes.

Seven minutes later, debutant Rainbird crossed for Mountfield in the middle, but the Chorley keeper held the header.

Chorley grew into the game, however, and Joe Bowles – an early substitute – forced a good save from Louis Parr, at full stretch, with a long-range effort on 28 minutes.

Bowles then shot over on 32 minutes, but Chorley broke the deadlock in the 35th minute when Sullivan Barker forced the ball home after a goalmouth scramble.

Jones levelled ten minutes after the break, however, side-footing in from a cross to equalise.

And midway through the half, Milner’s long-range effort deceived Woolham to give Wrexham the lead.

Cai Evans replaced Rainbird late on, and Wrexham remain five points behind leaders Stockport County.

Wrexham line-up: Parr, Fountain, Rainbird (C.Evans 87), D.Davies. R.Davies. Mountfield, Jenkins, Jones, Bell (Cushion 59), Milner

Subs not used: Hughes, Hess
