PREVIEW | Nantwich Town (A)

Wrexham kick-off pre-season with a trip to the Swansway Stadium this weekend

13 July 2022

Wrexham AFC begin pre-season with a short journey to Northern Premier League side Nantwich Town on Saturday (KO 3pm), with our new 2022/23 away kit to be worn by the players for the first time.

The Red Dragons have been busy preparing for the new season, with three key additions to the squad, in the form of defender Jordan Tunnicliffe, goalkeeper Mark Howard, and attacker Elliot Lee, all of whom boast significant EFL experience and will hope to get their first minutes for the Club this weekend.

As previously announced, the Club committed to this friendly as a thank you for hosting last season’s FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round Replay against Marine, with a second domestic friendly to follow on July 30 against Macclesfield FC.

Ticket information for the latter can be found here: TICKET NEWS | Macclesfield FC (H) - News - Wrexham AFC

THE OPPOSITION

Known as the Dabbers, Nantwich finished 13th last season and will be hoping to improve on their mid-table finish ahead of the new campaign.

It will be their fourth run out of pre-season by the time the two teams meet at the Swansway Stadium. Nantwich have suffered defeats to Crewe Alexandra and Curzon Ashton so far, either side of a 4-1 victory over a Stoke City XI.

Manager Dave Cooke has already looked to strengthen ahead this summer, with the addition of former Wrexham AFC youth player Louis Gray, as well as Jack Sherratt and AJ-Leitch Smith. Wrexham nemesis Ritchie Sutton, who has scored match-winning goals against the Club for both Tranmere Rovers and Altrincham, is also among the new faces at the Swansway Stadium this summer.

Fans will recall that young striker Jake Bickerstaff, who recently signed a new deal at Wrexham, had a loan spell with Nantwich last season.
