Wrexham fan Jamie Lewis is one of the thousands to have snapped up a season ticket for the highly anticipated 2022/23 campaign, but his show of support comes with a twist!
Jamie is based in Baltimore, Maryland, on the East coast of America, more than 3,000 miles from the Racecourse Ground, but will make the long trip to home games to cheer on the Red Dragons this season.
As the big kick-off draws closer, we caught up with Jamie to find out more about his story and how he came to be a far-flung season-ticket holder…
Firstly Jamie, tell us about how and when you became a Wrexham fan…
So, I’ve been a Wrexham fan all my life, for as long as I can remember! I was born in Wrexham and grew up a few miles away, in Chirk!
You’re now living on the East Coast of America – what’s it like to follow the Club from abroad?
Following the Club from the USA is tough - not being there every week as I’d like to is hard, but I listen to Mark Griffiths for every game that’s not on the TV. I’m also part of a group called Wrex-pats on Twitter that has about 20 lads from Wrexham in that live abroad, so it’s nice we have that little community abroad.
Despite the distance, you committed to becoming a season-ticket holder for the upcoming campaign – what can you tell us about how that decision came about?
I’ve recently been promoted to a position within my company that I felt put me in a position to be able to travel more regularly, so I decided I wanted to become a season-ticket holder and travel home as much as I could. I always wanted to be a season-ticket holder growing up but couldn’t ever afford it so it was kind of fulfilling a childhood dream when I decided to buy a season ticket.
How much are you looking forward to the 2022/23 season as we get closer to that opening game, and what the future holds for the Club more generally?
I can’t wait for this season to get under way! I fully expect us to have a really successful season but I don’t want to jinx it so I won’t say what I expect to happen. I’m very excited for this and the general future of the Club under Rob and Ryan; every decision they make seems to be in the best interest of the Club and community, so I truly believe we have the greatest owners in the football pyramid.
We’re sure you’re hoping the best is yet to come, but what’s been your favourite memory as a Wrexham fan so far?
My favourite memory as a Wrexham fan is being in the Kop end for when we beat Boston United to stay up in 2007 - the atmosphere that day was incredible.
Finally, what’s your message to the manager and players ahead of the new season?
To the players and manager my message is: thank you! Thank you for what you’ve already given us as fans - now go win the league!
