AWARDS | Steve Dale and Rosie Hughes rewarded for excellent season

Steve Dale named Genero Adran North Manager of the Year; Rosie Hughes wins Player of the Year

5 June 2022

Wrexham AFC Women manager Steve Dale was named Genero Adran North Manager of the Season and prolific striker Rosie Hughes claimed the Player of the Season honour in the league’s End-of-Season Awards.

Manager Dale spearheaded Wrexham’s charge up the table, taking the team from second-bottom into title contention in an incredible turnaround.

Having been in interim charge during the summer, Dale returned to the hotseat in November and led Wrexham to a ten-game winning streak in the Genero Adran North.

Though they suffered a last-minute loss in a winner-takes-all title decider on the final day, Dale’s achievements were still rewarded with the Manager of the Season title.

Hughes, meanwhile – also named Women’s Player of the Season in the Club’s End-of-Season Awards – had already claimed the league’s Top Goalscorer title after a stunning campaign in front of goal.

The striker netted 36 times in the league and 48 times in all competition in a remarkable debut season for the Red Dragons.

And she was named Player of the Season ahead of Bethel Ladies’ Mari Gibbard and Llandudno’s Jasmine Dutton in a public vote.

Team-mate Amber Lightfoot was also shortlisted for the Young Player of the Season award – won by Wales Under-17 international Madison Williams.

Lightfoot signed for Wrexham AFC Under-19s this season, and as well as finishing top scorer in the team’s Genero Adran U19s North title win, she quickly established herself as an integral part of the senior squad too.

She finished the campaign with 14 goals in 12 senior league appearances, and also won the Club’s Women’s Young Player of the Season award.

And Hughes, Lightfoot and goalkeeper Del Morgan – whose performances between the sticks were also integral to Wrexham’s charge up the table – were all named in the Genero Adran North Team of the Season too.
